National Drug Addiction & Recovery Month
This month marks the 18th year of National Drug Addiction & Recovery Month. To honor recovery from addiction, events will take place across the nation. This is a good opportunity to celebrate recovery and to educate the public. In Phoenix, the annual Art of Recovery Expo will be held September 29th. For more information log on to www.artofrecoveryexpo.com
This year's theme, "Join the Voices for Recovery: Saving Lives, Saving Dollars," asks people to take notice of the financial and human costs of substance use disorders, and to understand the benefits that investing in treatment can have on those who enter recovery, their families and the larger community.

I have been sober for over 5 years but it is by my action and reaction that I do make that choice thru out my day, which speaks to me I can live on lifes terms. My point is I have to do the next right thing. I didnt learn this kind of thinking in elementary school or living with my parents, it was in the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous I picked up the tools of living and the power greater then myself to ask for direction.
Wouldnt it be cool to start educating young children how to be ok for today……I believe it can start with the young adults that move through the 12 step process whether in recovery program of 12 steps or walking into the rooms of AA and rasing your hand….anything is possible through prayer and taking action in your life. I am still a kid inside and reaching down to help the next person who asks. Ask to be open, Ask for help…just ask.
Grateful for not doing anything alone anymore

After 25 years of public school teaching, I’ve always been an advocate for teaching Life Skills, and for me that includes responsible living, in all avenues.

The tools of recovery are the tools for a balanced and spiritual life. I have been impressed and educated at the confidence in communication gained by young people in recovery. As someone who has never had a chemical dependancy problem but many other disfunctional habits I am greatly aided personally by working in recovery.

It’s amazing after 24 years of sobriety I continue to meet people who are total unaware of addiction and recovery. We assume the word is out and the education is clearly in place but it is not. Like many other things, “until it happens to me, I really don’t need to know.” Events such as NDA&RM aide in helping to carry the message to share in the public eye honoring recovery reaching out and touching peoples awareness when least expected it can help save someone from the dregs of addiction.
