"Rehab is the new Black" was a t-shirt a girl would wear while I was hear at Gatehouse, implying that Rehab is the cool new thing to do. If it takes someone seeing their favorite celebrity going to rehab to get themselves there that’s great! It is unfortunate though for all the people seeing the celebrities who don't want recovery bounce in and out of recovery centers like they don't help or won't work. There are some real Stars who are in recovery that you never hear about, they work their program and life goes on. The chaos and disaster following around some of the more "outspoken" celebrities like Lindsey Lohan or Brittney Spears are just good ratings.

When I worked in the entertainment industry in the 80's and 90's there was so just as much drug and alcohol abuse as there is today however industry people and even a lot of media covered up for each other when there was an embarrassing situation. (Do you know any media member that does not hang out at the fee food and booze tables at the press conference??)Addiction was a word seldom used. It was usually a cover-up unless there was a death.
One of the stars I worked with actor Christopher Plummer wore his nickname "liguid plummer" like a badge of honor. Thank God times have changed and even though the use of drunken celebrity stories is a ploy for ratings and PR, at least addiction is no longer in the closet. I think we have a right to know when our celebs are out of control. Yes they are real people however, in my opinion, when you choose the lifestyle of being in the media eye it goes with the territory. You will be chased and talked about. Perhaps with the right help, and there is a lot of it out there, celebs can read about themselves in the media and decide to go into recovery. Look at some of the things celebs DO to help save our planet and all of its creatures.

Tv producers will try and use anything for ratings. They are real people with real problems. Just ebcause they are in the public eye doesnt exclude them from temptations, addictions and lifes curve balls.
