We are begining to see different beliefs when it comes to using long term medication maintanance programs, like a year or more, for people detoxing after an extensive history of abuse which in my opinion is assisting the addict to still use but can be viewed by many as acceptable way to help the addict detox. The stats on the long term medication program can be seen as a bandaid to the real deepth of the addict behavior to make poor daily life choices for themselves. The addict is still an addict when the layers of their stories are told as they enter some level of honest sobriety with the spiritual 12 step maintanance program is used on a daily basis is a live life on life terms medication. In my opinion a short term medication maintanance program to assist the addict when detoxing from extensive use is important as a medical condition from the abuse but can not fill the spirtual need in the addict.
