Prescription drugs and Michael Jackson

As the world reels from the shock of the untimely death of Pop Legend Michael Jackson the questions are now being asked about what role prescription drugs may have played in this tragic story.  Brian Oxman the Jackson family lawyer  has indicated that abuse of prescription drugs may have played a part in the star’s death.

Gatehouse Academy has  been warning for some time about the abuse of prescription drugs by young adults.  Partnership for a drug free America recently launched an awareness campaign on abuse of prescription drugs by teens.  Many teens get their fix in their parents medicine cabinet.  Partnership’s T.V. Ads are hard hitting reality checks for parents who leave their prescription drugs lying around.  According to recent statistics from Partnership for a Drug Free America’s annual tracking study:

  • 1 in 5 teens has abused a prescription (Rx) pain medication
  • 1 in 5 report abusing prescription stimulants and tranquilizers
  • 1 in 10 has abused cough medication

Michael Jackson’s devastating early departure from this world may at the very least raise awareness about this new threat to our kids and to anybody who doesn’t understand the fatal consequences of this type of drug addiction.  If you or a loved one needs addiction treatment contact us for a free consultation.

    thanks for the post.
Yes, an untimely death due to circumstances that are still somewhat sketchy at this point. Although ‘scripts did play a role, there seems to be a bit more going on here. I don’t know if there was an addiction to the drugs or if there was an error on someone elses part. I do hope though that with the death of Mr. Jackson and the death of Heath Ledger people will begin to understand the dangers of mixing ‘scripts!

As admissions director at Gatehouse Academy, I can say that lately there has been an increase in the number of families that are contacting us because of prescription drug abuse with their young adult child. Prescription drugs are becoming more easy to procure and sometimes less easy to dectect. If you are reading this because your loved one may be using presciption drugs, give us a call. Help is available.

The death of Michael Jackson was a great shock for myself and my family, though looking back it was perhaps not so unexpected. The molestation charges brought upon him sparked the beginning of his spiralled decline in his health. After he began to depend on medicines to simply get by, that was when there definitely was no way back, in my humble opinion.

R.I.P. The King Of Pop Michael’s death is a result of all the pain he had to go through over the course of all the accusations made against him. He was found completely innocent in the the courts, but his health spiralled out of control. So can you say his death was a individual doctor’s error, or was it the eagerness with which our society judges before trial? This applies particularly to the rich and famous.
