Group sports is a weekly activity of ours during our week at Gatehouse Academy. During the typical week, part of our recovery program incorporates fitness and exercise ranging from yoga, full body workout, karate, and group sports.
Group sports takes place mid Sunday afternoon. We drive across the town to the Wickenburg community park which has baseball, soccer, football fields as well as basketball and tennis courts. For two hours it provides us with the option to participate in a team sport of our choice.
The most popular option is a very large game of touch football which guys and girls play, sometime while the sprinklers are going on the field to cool off during the summer heat.
Another popular sport is basketball where you can find games of 4 on 4, 21, or just shooting and dunking the ball always incorporating good ol’ trash talking.
You can also play ultimate Frisbee, soccer, and if you want a break from the sun or don’t care for certain sports there is always the option to pick up hackey sac games or you can go for a jog around the park with a partner.
Group sports is all inclusive, and a very fun time for exercise and group unity. Everyone plays and I personally never leave with any energy left because I will run around the entire time, it brings back for me all of my own memories of playing pick up games with friends back home.
Group sports is just one of the options we have available for us at Gatehouse Academy to incorporate health and fitness as well as having fun with out peers.
