Family Communications

Family Communications Department

The family communications representative, or Team Liaison as they are called, is the primary contact for family members once the resident has been admitted to Gatehouse Academy. The Team Liaison will provide general information to the family at an arranged window of time during the week. They also serve as a point of contact where family members can direct their questions. During a resident's stay at Gatehouse Team Liaison assignments may be changed based on the needs of individual residents and staff.

Team Liaison Mission Statement

The role of a Team Liaison is to establish and maintain relations with residents and their families that supports them to lovingly detach from their young adult, trust the process of responsible recovery at Gatehouse Academy, and encourage family members toward their own recovery.

To establish and maintain relations with residents and their families that supports them to lovingly detach from their young adult; trust the process of responsible recovery at Gatehouse and encourage them toward their own recovery.

  • Effectively educate families on the overall Gatehouse Academy philosophy of "Guiding Young Adults toward a Life of Excellence, Leadership and Service".
  • Provide each parent with Gatehouse Academy Family Guide; using the Guide as a reference point for Family inquiries.
  • Weekly communication to update families on residents status in all aspects of the program.
  • Coach residents and families about the difference between material wants and needs through the Item Request form process.
  • Provide all staff with family communication updates and possible census issues.
  • Knowledgeable of Objectives and Elements for all Gatehouse Academy Programs.
  • Continuously maintain an awareness of the family’s commitment to the Gatehouse Academy Program.
  • To prepare parents to "Hold the Line" with the "Tough Love letter" and their new and often fragile boundaries during potential ASA discharge events.

Stages of Change

The Stages of Change model can be a template for understanding and assessing the progression of addiction recovery. It is not linear model, but a spherical lens through which a parent can better view all that can happen during the stay at Gatehouse Academy. Combined with the common language that comes along with12 Step recovery, the Stages of Change model can serve as a communication tool for you to reference during conversations with your Team Liaison and throughout your Family Workshop process.
