Alcohol and Drug Rehab

When examining the field of alcohol and drug rehab as a whole, a sometimes confusing picture emerges. On one hand, every participant has the same goal of overcoming their addictions in drug and alcohol treatment programs. On the other hand, there are a number of different opinions as to how best to achieve this goal. Unfortunately, most chemical dependency treatment programs fail to stop alcohol and drug abuse in young adults.

Alcohol Abuse

When considering drug alcohol rehab, you usually think of rehab for mature adults. What is not as well-documented, however, is the growing importance of alcohol rehabs for younger individuals. Young adults, ages 17 to 25, go through many changes. It is during this time that they are introduced to the pressures of the real world. How they adjust to those pressures will have a big influence on their personalities as mature adults.

There is always a certain amount of rebelliousness that occurs in teenagers and young adults. It is part of growing up. Unfortunately, this does not bode well for young adults who are experiencing problems with alcohol. Much of the time, attempts by parents or other authority figures are met with cynicism, overt disobedience, and disillusionment. Therefore, there must be a different mind-set when it comes to effective alcohol rehabs for young adults.

Unlike many of the other alcohol rehabs out there Gatehouse Academy is focused only on young adults.  We have always focused our reahabilitation methods around young adults and have learned how to help them recover from their addictions successfully. If you know someone who may need help overcoming their addiction to drugs or alcohol contact us right away.

Alcohol Detox

Alcohol detoxification is a necessary part of the drug alcohol rehab process. In fact, no real rehabilitation can take place until proper detoxification has been completed. Alcohol detox becomes more and more difficult in cases where the alcoholic has gone through a number of previous drug and alcohol treatment programs. A long-term, residential program provides abundant time not only to detoxify participants, but also to successfully rehabilitate them.

After achieving physical detoxification, it is important that the chemical dependency treatment addresses the psychological detox of participants. Mental detoxification is a core component because the mind's determination is responsible for not letting alcohol consume the body. This is a day-to-day process that involves understanding what alcoholism does to one's family, improving self-esteem, and learning life skills. Other factors that can contribute to successful psychological detoxification include work ethic, commitment to detail, social realignment, and community service.

Successful Alcohol Rehabilitation

Balancing education with recreation is an essential part of alcohol and drug rehab. Since young adults are still receiving formal education, a curriculum should be tailored to place emphasis on addiction recovery. In addition to all the standard subjects of a high school or university curriculum course, core classes with recovery-specific studies should be added. Recreational activities can be tailored to reflect what young adults like to do: be active, participate in fun events, and spend a lot of time outdoors.

Alcohol and drug rehab is a complex process, as is any difficult endeavor. It involves an amazing number of factors, in addition to the "12 steps." Look for drug and alcohol treatment programs that have conducted extensive research in forming their approach. Remember, though, that it is experience and practice that will identify the most successful approach and methods.

Gatehouse Academy prides itself on fostering a postitive environment that encompasses all aspects of the alcohol and drug rehab process.  Other drug and alcohol treatment programs focus only on one aspect, usually the physical detoxification process. Gatehouse utilzes skilled and experienced counselors to help successfully rehabilitate young adults.  Don't hesitate to contact us if you think you or a loved one needs drug alcohol rehab or to simply get more information.
