Sue Hooper - Gatehouse Affiliate
Sue was born and raised in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. She is a graduate of Meredith Manor School of Horsemanship with a B.A. in Equestrian Studies from Salem College. She has more than 28 years of experience as a teacher and trainer in English, western, and thoroughbred racing disciplines. Her work experience prior to establishing Haven Oaks, includes teaching, training, and competing in dressage and combined training as well as training and competing with Paint and Quarter horses in English and Western events. Sue has studied with notable horse masters including Sally Swift, Kay Meredith, and Francois de la Ruffieu. Sue directs the resident’s work with the thoroughbreds at Haven Oaks Farm, as they see to the day-to-day needs of the horses. “My greatest pleasure is to see the residents develop a love, appreciation, and respect for these magnificent animals.” Sue has multiple years in recovery and supports the overall Gatehouse Academy approach to recovery and education with the added emphasis of a special equine curriculum.
